Sandblasting – steel-grit blasting
At STARMAX we fully understand how important proper surface preparation is before applying protective coatings. That is why we offer professional steel-grit blasting – that is, sandblasting with steel grit – and powder-coating services that guarantee the highest quality and durability of the finish. Blasting, also known as abrasive blast cleaning, is a key process that not only removes contamination but also prepares the surface for excellent paint adhesion.
Abrasive blast cleaning in a chamber is a key process in the mechanical treatment of surfaces, particularly as a stage of surface preparation before applying coatings compliant with the requirements of the Qualisteelcoat system.

What is abrasive blast cleaning?
Abrasive blast cleaning, also known as sandblasting, involves removing contamination, rust, paint or other unwanted layers from the surface of a material using a stream of abrasive projected under high pressure.
The stages of the process:
- Surface preparation: Initial cleaning – the surface must be free of grease, oil and chemical contamination.
- Choice of abrasive: Steel shot, glass beads, copper slag, corundum – the choice depends on the material and the desired effect.
- Machine settings: Adjusting the stream pressure, angle and nozzle distance.
- The blasting process: Even and thorough cleaning of the entire surface.
- Quality control: Visual inspection, roughness measurement.
- Grinding: Levelling the surface after blasting.
- Surface protection: Dust removal, removal of abrasive residue, temporary corrosion protection.
Preparation for applying Qualisteelcoat coatings:
- Applying an anti-corrosion primer
- Subsequent layers of protective and decorative coatings
The advantages of abrasive blast cleaning:
- Effective removal of contamination
- Improved adhesion of new coatings
- Surface uniformity over large areas
